1991............that year saw a return to form and then some......I did long runs of 14, 15 and 17 miles and set a record for total miles in a year at 3,222.7....I also did two 10Ks in 37:40 and 34:47....just a second off my PR. To digress a moment.....I did do a 10K in 1988 in 38:10.......the main thing about late '90 and into 1991........running felt better than it had since '84. 1990 marked the dawn of my third era of running......1990 to 2000......highlights would be plenty.......10 years in a row of 3,000 or more miles.....'91 through '00......a new miliage record set in 1992 of 3,663.2...........that was also my first year that I maintained a 10 mile a day average. Four years in a row of maintaining at least 9.0 average a day or better.........'92 through '95. I returned to the Marathon in '92 and ran 3:14:57......followed by another in January of 1993 in 3:09:08........I hit the wall in both of these in the late miles and had severe slowing. My fourth Marathon in March of 1993 was a breakthrough.........a 3:02:32 in tempatures that were close to 90 degrees by the finish.....no wall and this was also the first Marathon that I carbo loaded for and took in fluid throughout. This was also a PR until 10-02-93 when I ran my first Sub3......2:59:24. I would run a 3:01:22 my next outing in March of '94...but the next 7 marathons would all be under 3 hours.....4 in 2:58 and change........a 2:56.......a 2:55......and best of all my PR that still stands and likely will for the duration......2:54:08.......I ran that in March of 1998 when I was 37............my most recent Marathon was in '99..........2:58:39. I sort of got bored at that point with the Marathon and have not run one since.....running them for the sake of running them did not make much sense to me.....there was no mystery as to finishing.....just a matter of what would my time be. I am starting to get the itch though to see what I could do as a 46 year old......more on that later. Also during this era.......'90 to '00........I ran 3 half Marathons....two of them at sub6 minute pace......1:17:56 and 1:15:24.....I should note though that it was an extreme downhill course that was point to point in Fontana, CA.......these were done in '94 and '95......there other half Marathon was done in '94 in 1:22:40 on flat surface. I also did a 17:37 5K in '94. More later when I cover the fourth era of my running.........2000 to 2002.
